    cambelt 1.6 sport ecotec .97

    hi AOC,
my nephew cam belt snapped... , i think it would almost be 100% to have smacked the valve's.

what sort of chance is it?

i no the 2.0 8 valve dont smack, so he's hope the ecotec took the same design.

if it is 100%... what the best course of action new head or engine???
    or astra heaven ?

any help would be appriciated folk's

    thanks

    yorkie....

sorry mate but when the ecotec belts snap they almost always damage the valves and head and all depending on what revs the engine was doing at the time, you may have piston top damage too. only way to find out is strip it down and you may be lucky enough to just need a head rebuild and new belt/idler wheels etc and it would be wise to renew the water pump at the same time to avoid a possible repeat. if the pistons are damaged too then i personally would source another engine if you feel the car is worthy of the expense. good luck mate.

Source a new head from the scrappies. Take it to bits, clean it out good and then swap em over and renew timing kit and water pump. Should be fine afterwards.... providing the piston crown isn't damaged.
