    The diesel search is on............

    right,

as the title suggests the time has come for me to start looking at a diesel due to the amount of mileage im going to be doing as the ACT will cost me a fortune. I'm ideally looking to spend around the £7k mark and it needs to meet the following

    • something with some decent power
    • obviously the more mpg the better
    • preferably hatchback but open to suggestions
    • oh, an some toys to play with if poss

so that pretty much sums up what im after, suggestions on a postcard please

Vecta C 1.9 CDTi SRi. Not the best car in the world to drive or look at but you'll struggle to get more/newer for the money and an easy 200bhp on tap.

If he had asked for something overpriced, maybe. Don't get me wrong - we have a Golf TDi and it's good but it's a company car, I'd never pay the premium for owning one.

Are the 2.2 Civic's under the 7k mark yet?

If so there worth a look. And if you get an EX theyve got LOADS of toys. I liked mine but it just wasnt my type of car.

ok they overpriced but they are high priced for a reason!! they are imo one of the most reliable cars i know!!

if the traditional golf dont tickle ya fancy why not look at seat?? there nothing wrong with them they are a lot better than other cars of same value etc or what about bmw diesel? or even better audi tdi heard there in a league of there own nowadays!!

probably a few Volvo S40's in that price range. The D5 is 180 bhp std. Trouble is you need a flat cap and have to be over 50 to drive one. I like the Saab 9-3 too. If you stretch to a TTid they are the twin turbo 180 bhp diesels.
