Thumbs Up Newbie, looking for advice :-)

    Hello all,

I've just bought a 1.6 sxi and I must say its one of the nicest cars i've ever driven! I will post pics when I get my camera working.

Theres one thing that is bothering me, and I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice?

On the steering wheel around the area where the airbag is there are two small rips in the material, I was just wondering if this would affect the airbag at all?

Im paranoid that i'm going to be driving along and the airbag is going to deploy!

    Thanks in advance

    Kate

i personally would go to your nearest vauxhall garage and get it checked straight away,, better to be safe than sorry..not only might it deploy when you dont want it,, it might be damaged and might not deploy when you do need it too..

The airbag is hidden behind the plastic badged centre of the wheel - if the fabric/leather on the wheel itself it damaged then it isn't going to set the airbag off. The car has impact sensors in (I assume!) which tell the airbag to deploy in a crash.

again it depends on how deep the rips are and what they were made by..hoping they havent damaged the airbag underneath...
still worth checking it out for piece of mind...for the cost of a trip to see your local vx garage..

Thanks for the quick replies! I'll have a drive up to the vauxhall dealers on Monday, as you say it's better to be safe than sorry :-) Thanks again

Just be careful they don't want a "diagnostics fee" =/ my local VX garage want some sort of payment to look at anything, then again not every garage is stingy
