I posted a while ago I was going to do my level 2 NVQ as a mechanic.
To do a NVQ you need to do 15 hours at a garage and as I have a 'normal' job it means I am doing Friday afternoons and Saturdays at a friends garage to get my hours in.
Well today was my first afternoon 'learning'.
Walked in and spoke to my mate who told me that my first 'job' was to fit a clutch to a transit van and do some MOT repairs. This was so he could see what level I was as I had been out of the garage scene for 10 years and just worked on my own car and friends.
I fell at the first hurdle by not knowing how to unlock the rear doors (To sort rear number plate bulbs) and how to open the bonnet (To replace a side light bulb).
Once I was shown how to open them both I cracked on with the clutch job. When I left I had just finished taking the clutch out and ordered the new one ready to go back in tomorrow.
So in 3 1/2 hours I had replaced both rear number plate bulbs (After removing the doors 'boarding'), replaced a front side light bulb, adjusted the rear brakes (After sorting out the adjusters) and taken the gear box out.
Not a bad first day
