Sacrifice your car to save a stranger?

I was driving this morning and thought, if it meant saving a pedestrian against impact from another motorist would you swerve to sheild them.

Me, in this day and age, with compensation etc no way.

I would. Imagine not doing it, then seeing it happen then thinking that you could have saved that person but you didnt, how bad would you feel?! I think saving someones life is far more important than saving something you can replace! I'd prob still cry that i'd wrecked my car tho!!

its very material but what if you injured yourself, ruined your life for the sake of someone else who may or may not care

what would insurers think also and how can you proove you were saving someones life?

    this is all circumstantial.

For example, if the pedestrian had wandered out onto a motorway, there's no way I'd swerve to protect them, my swerve could mean i hit another car and that spin, flip over cause a massive crash and kill many more than the one plonker on the motorway.

However, if it was on a small side road then probably yes.

I think we are referring to normal roads here as a posed to Dual Carriageways and Motorways, as the average member of joe public wouldn't be randomly walking around attemtping to cross in hectic traffic.... for me I would be gutted about my car... but far more gutted if I allowed a pedestrian to get mowed down, especially if there were young children involved....... I can replace my car.... but not the images of watching someone potentially die in what would be horrendous circumstances...

...as much as you're saving the pedestrian.. it's quite possible you'd end up being the one to die.
