    Tuning 1.7dti - how far?

Hi, im new just bought an 03 astra van 1.7dti

my last car was a 306 hdi, which i had added a couple of extra bits too to take it from 90bhp up to 160bhp and 280lbs torque.

so as you can imagine the van feels rather sluggish.... im not wanting to make it stupidly fast (unless its fairly easy to do!)

just wondering if anyone could tell me whats needed to get about 120bhp?
and also if anyones gone for more power than this, whats needed etc, does the clutch need uprating?

for the 306 i added a front mount intercooler (didnt have one atall as standard), adjusted the turbo to 23psi, straight through exhaust, and a custom remap, then i needed a £360 clutch to handle the torque! lol

what sort of gains would i be looking at from fitting a bigger fmic and can i get it remapped?
iv heard alot about tuning boxes on here but want to keep clear of them and prefer a remap.
is the turbo wastegate controlled by the ecu or is there a wastegate adjusting arm on the turbo?

    any help would be great

    thanks

Not heard of FMIC's being a lot of good on the 1.7's mate.

However, just a map with no others mods should see you up to 115bhp.. have seen it on quite a few of the 1.7's...
Tuning boxes are a no go on these as they are hard wired and crap TBH... Definitly go for remap..

theres already a small intercooler on mine, was just thinking of sticking a bigger one on

ive seen a van around here with an intercooler peeping through the bumper and thought it might be a common thing.

can anyone recommend somewhere cheap to get a decent remap?

also, what sort of diagnostics connection are these? OBD2? and where the hell is it?! lol

can they be remapped using the KWP2000+ software?

sorry for all the questions :$

for the diagnostics connection is in the middle pannel between the gear stick an hand brake,on a slant, use a small screwdrive to prise it up , carefull not to mark plastics.

the van you saw probably had a c20let in it 2.0 turbo

theres not a lot of people who go much further than panel filter exhaust + remap on here to be honest

    ahh

so whats the options for 'big' power then?

and can anyone answer these questions for me,

is the van remappable with kwp2000+ software?
    does anyone do cheap maps?
or does anyone want to share a map with me?

Yes, it is mappable with KWP2000 but it doesnt shut the ECU properly. I remapped my 1.7 DTi with one of those and the map kept changing all the time as it was modifying itself! Not good....
115bhp will be the maximum you will get before it starts smoking like hell, drinking diesel like no tomorrow and putting strain on engine components. If you want to go faster rip it out and do a C20LET/Z20LET petrol turbo conversion.

Best off using a tuning company like i did end the end.. Celtic Tuning are good. Google them on the net..
