    *Snob mode*

    For £150? none

    /Snob mode.

Not worth it to be honest, it'll be cheap crap speakers and a pathetic amp.

    Agreed...

I'm running a setup of Onkyo amp with Acoustic Energy 5.1 system including a 200w twin driver active sub.

    It booms nicely.

Got it all for £750 by shopping about.

Have a look at Cambridge audio and mordaunt short stuff, might be able to pick some off the 'bay for decent prices.

£150 will probably get you a cheap 2.1 (2 speakers + sub) and a cheap amp with about 30w RMS per channel if you're lucky.

Basically, it's a PC gaming setup.

I looked at some of the £400-500 "one box solutions" available and none sounded good to me.

So I spent over £X000 on my Onkyo & Kef setup.

Very impressed with my Yamaha AV59 pack, it is superceded now but I can't find the new version - £200 when I got it a few years back, the new one has HDMI, HD all sorts of other bits included and for the money gets some outstanding reviews. When I looked into this a few years ago £200 seemed the break point where you were getting something pretty good - I didn't want a DVD Player built in as I had one already, and if a combi surround sound/DVD player breaks you have to replace all of it, I'd rather keep it seperate!

they always seem to be at the forefront of new developments etc. Their sound quality is awesome and always seem to offer that little bit more than the competition. However, this *can* come at a price, their top of the range stuff is very good, and very expensive.

Cambridge Audio is pretty good for the more budget restrained person, I had a CA amp, that was bloomin brilliant as well for the price I paid!
