Stiff Steering when pulling away sometimes...?

    As title...
Mostly when the car is 'cold' i think.
I have no stiff steering problems though when turning abrubtly around corners at speed (as some have mentioned). It is only experienced when pulling off after being parked up.

Any ideas what the prob might be, or is it just a standard 'fault' with mk4's?

    Thanks.

p.s. i don't know if this thread is in the right place btw.

I thought all mk4's were electric steering and not mechanical i.e belt driven ?

Ive heard some people have had the same problems due to a falty alternator not being able to produce enough power for the electric steering

    As mentioned above

    1st check tyre pressures
2nd check power steering fluid level is correct
3rd check alternator is charging correctly as if the alternator goes the power steering goes with it being an electrical pump and drawing plenty of current in use.
Lastly, get down the gym more and work out those bicepts.....

    lol
No worries on the biceps issue.
The tyres are pumped up ok also.
I'll check the power steering fluid and report back..

Remember, this ONLY happens when moving off from being parked up (and only sometimes)...so could this still be an alternator issue?

    Thanks.

Yeah, this is exactly how mine feels when i pull off sometimes, i must add. And at most it takes about 5 - 10 seconds to 'wake up'.

    Nice analogy
