    AC Whining noise

Hi Guys, hoping someone can help. Yesterday, went for a drive and as the weather was quite hot, I put the AC on but noticed that as I revved the engine, I could hear a distinct whining noise which got worse with higher revs. The air was still coming out cold but the noise is worrying me and it definitely was not there before. Can anyone tell me what the problem could be and roughly how much it would cost to fix. There are no fault codes etc as I have already checked. The car is an MK5 1.9 CDTI 05 plate.

    Thanks

It could just be that the system is low on gas, mine was doing this last year until I got it topped up.

hmm, I hope that is the cause as it will probably be the cheapest to fix. But I thought if the system was low on gas, it just wouldn't kick in (as it was doing prior to getting a leak fixed)?

It has to be pretty low before it stops working, mine was around 60% full I think when it was whining.

Well the system was 'fixed' and re gassed around 5 months ago, I wouldn't have thought it would go low so quick I guess I'll have to take it to an AC specialist to get it confirmed then.

    Thanks for the assist

Mine did this after a new rad was fitted, the garage said they had refilled it, but it whined from me picking it up again, the system was still low on gas as I watched the empty/refil cycle and it put a good bit back in.
