Which sub is better and why?

Which sub is better and why? ALPINE-SWR-1242D or ALPINE-SWR1222D.

    Thanx for any help.

Both are the same they are both dual voice coils only difference is the ohms! It all depends if your amp is 1 ohm stable or even 2 ohm stable, SWR-1242D will go down to 2 ohms allowing it to be driven harder SWR-1222D will go down to 1 ohm allowing it to be driven harder. HTH

Thank you for your speedy reply, so just to ensure I understand fully, they both can run at 2ohms, but the SWR-1222D will run at 1ohm with a suitable amp, which will drive it harder and louder than the SWR-1242D at 2ohms?

No the SWR-1242D is two 4ohm coils if you wire them in parallel you can reduce it to 2ohms, The SWR-1222D is two 2ohm coils if you wire them in parallel it reduces it to 1ohm, reducing the ohms makes it easier for the amp as their is less resistance from the sub resulting it being louder as the amp has an increase in power due to the reduction in ohms HTH

I have 2 of the 4 ohm DVC Subs (Type R Alpine)
BASSJUNKIES gave me what they said was "the perfect amp" to drive these subs
It's a rockford fosgate 551s power punch amp
    2 channel amp 550w
My subs are wired in parallel, and the 2 channel amp is bridged

Are my subs getting enough power?
They are definately LOUD! but each sub is 1500w Peak, and 500w RMS
so... 3000w PEAK and 1000w RMS in total running off a 550w amp?
To me I feel I need a better amp?
But I also remember someone telling me because the subs are wired in parallel, this reduces ohms and increase watts? or somethign like that... can;t remember exactly so don't quote me on it

Take the rockford certificate that you get with the amp screw it up and chuck it in the bin rockford amps are well under rated and i think rockford take pride in underrating their amps, i've seen a rockford punch 60w RMS power 2 MTX subs and it was doing for about 2 years until he sold the amp and the subs Their is enough in the reserve of that amp to do the job

Thank you for clarifying this, so would you say that the SWR-1222D is the better buy out of the two?

Really doesn't matter as the amp will have a max, get the cheapest one it will probably be the 4 ohm one but make sure your amp is 2 ohm or better still 1 ohm stable

Thank you for your kind words of wisdom. I'll get pics up when I get it, and then once fitted. You've been a massive help.
