    Earth strap

Soz if it's the wrong forum. Where would it be better suited?

Anyway.... changed mine today. The original was a bit tatty, although not as worn as some i've seen on here:

Question is, could it possibly be too short (thus being too tight) or is that not really going to be a problem?

I didn't have a tape handy, so measured with my fingers & guessed roughly 9 inch. Went to a car parts storeon my dinner break & fella said they have a 9inch strap - 2.99. This vs the 10 i heard Vaux charged had me returning with a 9 inch strap.

Fitting it though & it's tighter than the Vaux one & much more than some of the replacements i've seen you guys stick on.

    Side shot:

    One end:

    And t'other:

For the "worrying brigade"...i'm not worrying Just thought i should ask.

EDIT: lol, never in a month of sundays would i have thought an earth strap thread should've gone in the InCarEntertainment forum . Just in case someone mis-reads that, i wasn't 'having a moan' . Just saying it'd be one of the last forums i'd have thought of putting it.

Not all cars have them. Possibly just the 1.8's

Well i'm off to work in a sec, so i guess i'll find out if anything happens lol

What (if anything) is likely to happen due to the shortness of the cable? I guess i should be buying the next size up ey?

Yep i would say it needs to be a bit longer as when you get engine movement it will start to pull on the ends of the strap

    Ahh ball-ox!!

Went to work & back today & all was good. Gutted, just when i thought i was saving money on a Vaux part, i'm going to end up spending not far off it :| lol

Is there any "standard" sizes? As in, what would the next size up be? Or the size i should be asking for?

EDIT: If the Halfords website is anything to go by, then next size up is 18". Bit excessive no? lol

God almighty man!!! U dont half worry!

Just get a longer length of cable - or better still make your own! Not exactly rocket science - ICE shop, 0 or 4 AWG cable - couple of crimp connectors and job sorted

Common sense surely tells you how long the cable needs to be - look at ur current effort and youll see its too tight - now apply the same principle to tell u which one is too long and then compromise between the two.

If the one youve got is too small for this it may be useful for another application - other earth straps on car u could improve on maybe?
