    Intermittent wipers on a G - useless..

I'm now 6 months into owning my G (1.6 Club auto, 2000 reg), and on the whole I'm happy with it.

The intermittent wipe function though drives me insane. Is it supposed to be speed sensitive? It's either too slow, or sometimes it'll start and get stuck part-way, or sometimes it'll click the relays as normal and nothing happens at all!

I'm used to the variable mod intermittent wipe on the F, using the VW relay..this one really sucks. I've stripped and lubed the mechanism, the motor works fine on normal mode, parking is fine too, UNLESS I'm on intermittent, where it just gets cranky!

Any ideas? It's about the only thing on this car that makes me swear...

Quite possibly a dodgy motor, quite a common fault, mine did this last year and I got a second hand motor which fixed it.

What nry said. I've seen a guide on another Vxl site about repairing it - but I'd already bought a second hand one. They're generally about £30-35 IIRC second hand or £110 new.

    Hmmmm......

Re-reading the thread your symptons are slightly different to mine as mine wouldn't park correctly from normal wipe aswell as intermittant wipe.

Sorry Sirbendy, I'm not helping much...

You can use the vw relay on a mk4 too, just needs a little more wiring done, I recently completed this mod because I missed it from my mk3 with the omega system.

Sounds interesting. Is there a how-to?

    Thanks

This How to was done for the VectraB but it's the same for AstraG.
