    high reving

    my astra is having a high reving problem at min what would b best way to cure this thanks

    locate the ICV (idle control valve) and give it a good going over with carb cleaner (available from local motor factors for about £3)

    whilst ur at it - remove the air inlet trunking and clean the throttle body too..... also remove and clean the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation valve) whilst ur at it

    should have it sorted in no time

    ICV as the name suggests regulates the idle speed and therefore more than likely the cause - the other parts i suggested should be routinely cleaned anyway so may as well do it all at the same time

    if u can remove the TB from the inlet mani even better - if not just clean it in situ

    Our Astra has started doing this occasionally too, only seems to happen when you start up when warm, revs high for about 10 secs then drops back to normal.
