    Longevity of the MK4

The Mk4 Astra is a car i still turn my head at in the street and now owning one after a long wait i wonder how long it will be before everyone moves over to the MK5 with the arrival of the MK6.

I ask because my current 1.6 8v just doesn't give me what i want and i figure that in about 6-8 months i'll be in a better position to buy a better model.

    Options are:

    1.6i 16v SXi 3 door in silver
    2.2i Sri
    GSi

I have two kids (girls) and they will end up costing me a fortune so i can afford to get the car and mod it a wee bit, but as far as replacing big parts like turbos i'm not sure about just yet. Plus i have a Mk2 megane too the wife uses so she's now moaning for a GSi lol

I do like the MK5 but it's missing something i cant put my finger on. So what's the general feeling on the MK4?

i have driven a 1.6 8v active, and the drive is nothing like a 16v engine, even the 1.6. i prefer the standard mk4's to the mk5's, but i think the mk5 sri's are nicer. its up to you thought mate, overall i think i prefer the mk4. but then its all on opinion!

    Cheers

I know what you mean about the mk5! I like them but there's something i'm not sure on?! I do like the SRi's with the xp kit though!

Still prefer the mk4! They still grab my attention when i'm out! Love them

I know what you are saying, there is something about the MK5 that is like all the other hatchbacks out there, so in essence the MK4 is quite unique. I'm not knocking Mk5's i do quite like them myself, but you know what i mean.

An example of what i mean can be told in this...I was searching AutoTrader last night and i came across this 3 door SRi ....rephrase....i saw this SRi and turned to my wife and said,

Paul: "Would you just look at that?"
    Wife: "What?"
Paul: "Just look at it, its fu**ing gorgeous eh?"
Wife: "Aye whatever you think, its not a GSi though is it"
Paul: "You dont need a GSi to have a quick Astra"

and the debate went on for several hours, she quite likes cars. In her teens she had a Nova SRi that kept getting broke into lol then an Astra GLS 1.6 Artic white, then i got the Megane and she was like BLEEAUUGH!!

anyway i'm late for work and rambling again. I have no idea the point i was trying to make, but there ya go..
