speed of getting music cd's onto PC

Ok so sort of playing with itunes, so I put my first CD in which is a 25 track album. itunes gives me an estimated time of 1 hour and 624.2 MB is this correct?

That is in 160kbps and MP3 format.

If this is the case I might be re-thinking the CD collection going on the PC!

    Seems slow mat.

Sounds like it's copying it in 'real time'. My itunes does an album in about 5 minutes.

    Too bigger file as well...

I'd suggest having a little look in the options etc.

yeh, i dont know what to do bout it but i can agree that 1hr for an album is long. So something needs changing.

    That is rediculously slow.

Use Windows Media Player, configure the options & rip

    I use 192bit in mp3 format.

If you want other software, then try ExactAudioCopy, but i think you need to download a "lame" codec or something to that effect.

I have used media player in the past and it usually took a couple of minutes. Most of the time it also filled out the ID tags Album name, Artist etc.

On a slightly different subject, I always used variable bit rate (VBR) compression over fixed such as 160/190, which I was always very happy with.

EDIT : Come to think of it, I also ripped CD's using iTunes and that was pretty quick.

Try just copying them from source to your pc not using itunes / WMP but this will lead to no song titles etc and in most cases its quicker.

If you want to wait a few more minutes and have the titles etc then WMP is the best thing to use and then just simply add them to your itunes library.

getting really annoyed with this now.

I used to get decent ripping speeds on the smaller kbps in WMP, however since changing it to 192kbps and installing itunes on my PC (not sure if this is related) I can no longer get anything like a decent ripping speed.

I have done some PC maintenance as I thought this could be one of the problems. However its still the same

Any gen would be great as i have an itouch but unable to use it at present.
