    ASTRA MK4 water under carpet

Anyone having this problem.. Discovered (lots of) water under the carpet, trying now to dry it but need to find out how did it got there in the first place.. My mechanic is saying that the drains could be blocked, but where are those drains no idea... No details in the Haynes car manual..

    Thanks a lot,
    Adrian

Bit of a nightmare. Where is the majority of the water? Any particular foot well, or just all over?

I know mk2's suffer from heater matrix problems which causes wetness underfoot. Not sure if it's the same for mk4's.

it is in the layer under the carpet which is actually a sponge... It seems to be all over, that makes it more complicate to get it out and locate the source of the problem.. If only I can know now where those drains are... And if you want to take the carpet out you have to take out the chairs etc... I just lift it a bit and taking out water with a small sponge...

Had this issue on my wife's VW Polo.
The problem was leaves blocking the drains and rain water was filling up the area where the wiper motors are. When raining water was flowing through the heater/pollen filter system and ended up over the carpets.

    Your issue could be similar,
Open the bonnet, remove the rubber strip at the back and lift the plastic panel (that houses the screen washer nozzles). check that leaves and dirt are not covering the drains in either corner and make sure water is draining away.

    Hope this helps!!

    Do you have a sunroof?
If so, they have drain tubes that run down through the a-pillars & footwells that can get blocked up.

Thanks, I have actually checked the sunroof and the drain tubes and water seems to drain fine from there.

Hi, Just to let you all know that the problem as per the garage was the sunroof tubes... Some water was getting through them but most of it not...

    Thanks a lot.

first rain and still getting water inside. rechecked the tubes are all right, all water getting out through there.. The water now is dripping on the driver side exactly underneath the thing you pull to open the bonnet.

    still investigating...
