Clay Lube - what mixture to make my own?

right, have just got into the whole claying malarky!

got the halfords clay bar kit, complete with spray lube, and m/f cloth. now the only thing i want to know, is what mixture do i use for making my own clay lube? i know its a mix of water and shampoo, but is it like 1 part shampoo to 5 parts water etc?

also, what sort of shampoo? i use megs gold wash shampoo stuff, is this ok?

am going to need to make my own by the weekend as the g.f's KA is in desperate need of a full detail, and it looks like next sunday will be the day, as long as the weather holds off!

The measurements I swear by are:

fill the bottle up with water.
Add a blob of car shampoo.

You can use any shampoo really, I use Asda Smartprice

Let us know what the Halford Clay kit is like mate, seen it the other day and took it all out of the box in the shop (don't worry, I put it all back in after ), I'm thinking it may be the same as the Megs kit.

thats who had opened the box then

it was ok, had never used clay before, but the car came out looking good, much better than just washing it and going straight for the bottle of SRP!

i will give the home made lube a try once i have finished what i have in the bottle i already got. that way if i fill that old bottle up, i haven't got to get myself one from CYC! am going to order myself some bilberry wheel cleaner and a spray bottle from them this week anyway!

new M/F cloths from the bay turned up this morning, so got no excuse now!

    Its only a lube...

I've used normal tap water before. Keep the panel really wet and it does a good job.

only needs to be a weak mix. enought to add some lubricty but not to much to the point it will ruin the clay.

fill the bottle and add a blob.
