    Dead mk2 engine

ok so i'm new to this but i have a MK2 with a 1.6 8v carb engine. Only the engine is dead(i bought it this way). the car has had a new starter, new ignition solenoid, new spark plugs and HT leads, new battery and is getting a new dizzy cap fitted this weekend. but i still have the problem that the car wont fire, the engine turns and i get spark but nothing else. i have checked the fuel pump(it pumps) the fuel filter(not blocked) and replaced the above parts. i'm hoping someone on here might have an idea before i throw in the towel and buy a new engine.

    Welcome to AOC

Know this may sound stupid, are you sure the distributor cap has been put on the right way? I've heard of stories as if it is spun 90 degrees one way then the whole ignition timing will be out

take the UFO off and pour some fuel straight in to the carb and turn her over (ignition coil unplugged). Does it fire?

Have you checked the spark on all the leads? Is the dizzy in ok condition? no splits in it? Corrosion on the points and arm?

does it try and cough into life or is it just turning over and over and over?

Have you tried removing the plugs to see if fuel is getting in?

Compression testing involves removing the plugs one by one, screwing in the tester and turning the engine over....... This will give you a reading... If all are roughly the same and are around the manufacturers specification.....Happy days ..... If not.........

If its got pistons or tits, its gonna be expensive!!
