    Engine transplant

Ok so the idea for a rebuild has gone out the window after it was apparent I don't really have enough experience

But has anyone transplanted a mental engine into an astra? Whats the most powerful engine you could put in and is it worth it?

I'm getting quotes of about 2k for a Z20LET yet engines from other manufacturers seem much cheaper!

Also is doing an engine transplant a DIY job or should I get ready to pull my pants down and just pay the cost?

you didn't know what a torque wrench is, for your own safety mate, pay the price, if you feel that you can do it, by all means try it, but personally, i'd say just pay the money.

Just wondered if when paying a mech I could get a 2.2 put in, or possibly a CDTi for better fuel ecomony or whether it is a whole lot easier to get a direct replacement

2.2 is only 144bhp, not worth it IMO, zlet 200bhp, cdti, ALOT of work, need to change fuel lines and fuel tank, alot of money. cheapest route is zlet conversion probably done by g-man for 3k inc all bits to memory.
