    Astra SRI 2.2

    Evening chaps (and ladies),

I wanted to get some advice before I went out and purchased a Mk4 SRI. Here's what I'm looking to buy:

    Mk4 SRI 2.2
Up to 70k on the clock
    Service history
    Standard, no mods
    02 plate onwards

What things should I look for when viewing one of these? There are a few about on Auto Trader and Ebay but I don't want to rush in and but the first one that looks good.

    All advice welcome!

    Ross

If you can, get the engine number and see if it was in the range affected by the dodgy oil nozzle for the chain, if it was, has the chain been changed with the new nozzle.

    Thanks for that.

Do you know what numbers were affected? If not is the information somewhere on the forum?

Ok I've done some searching (maybe should have done this first )

Found a buying guide thread and this has given me everything I need!

    Cheers,

if im not mistaken the engine number range is a myth

only if the owner complained to vxl about the problem then the modified oil spray nozzle and timing chain kit were fitted.

the best thing to do is check if its been done and if not get it done

the kit is still available from either Vxl or independent specialists like Autovaux etc and contains a new chain and all the associated parts together with the improved spray nozzle

Best to err on the side of caution and get it fitted regardless of what the engine number is.

It was generally the earlier models that were affected so if ur looking at a 2002 ish example then this will be more relevant

Obviously speaking to a 2.2 guru or doing some research on here will be ur best idea as im just speakin off the top of me bonce!

I think the engine number thing is true ... mine was ok, it was a 2003 52 plate.

I did find the list of numbers somewhere, but cannot for the life of me find it now. Sorry bud. I am sure jeff will be along shortly anyway.

    Astra SRI 2.2

    Thanks for the info guys.

Went to look at one this morning and it was pretty good. There's a chance I might get it next week after I've done a bit more research.

    Cheers,

    Ross
