    Lightbulb number plate lighting

    hi there

....i have seen a few cars, even motorcycle number plates lit up with not your usual number plate lighting.

they kind of have that blueish white look to them, something like those weird audi headlights colour which look good

i dont know if they are halogen or xenon, & if i need a HID conversion kit or just a bulb which looks good enough blueish.
a bulb would be ok i guess.
i heard that these conversion kits cause issues with the 'canbus' system & the law of the land....

    thank you so much.

I guess the number plate light will have a LED in it rather than a bulb

To run it with a LED you'll probably need a load resistor

Fitted one to my number plate and tbh they do not light up the whole numberplate, look good though.

IIRC all you have to do is change the wires round in the bulb holder for it to work

    Arghhhh,

    Can't remember the bulb type

With regards the wires, simply take out the number plate light holder and swap the wires round so that the positive wire is connected to the negative terminal and the negative wire is connected to the positive connector.

I stuck some W5W blue sidelight bulbs that I had lying about, I think they look pretty good, compared to the standard OEM bulbs. Probably dont look good as LEDs, but I am happy with them.

or you can just turn around the bulb . No joke guys you dont need to muck about with wires if the bulb doesnt work. Simply remove the bulb and rotate it 180degrees refit them and bobs you aunties daughter. The bulbs are 501s dont buy from halfords or autosaves etc cause there crap in my opinion. try flea bay.

go to bmw, the numberplate light of the new 1 series is a led. The whole light unit comes complett with a led fitted and the best is, they fit the astra without any mods. Take your old light out and clip the bmw in, thats easy. Cost is about £20 for a complette light and by the way, the numberplate light is not checked by the controle system
