    how tough are these engines?

im looking at buying a mark 5 cdti 1.9 and i was wondering how tough these engines were. ive looked at a nice example of the car but i was maybe worried as the milage is quite high its at 110,000. i was wondering if it's really gonna make much of a difference to maintaining it and maybe if a rebuild after i buy may be a good option depending on price?

    any help please?

if the car has been looked after regular services and not ragged the for a diesel that's just worn in, you will find a few people tell you stories of how some diesels they know have done 200+ miles and still run fine.....oh and the 1.9 is a great car...

ive recently purchased a 1.9 cdti sri 150 and mine had about 82k on the clock.

Ive owned mine for over 2 months nearly and not had any troubles or minor problems.

Its been serviced as it should and its in excellent condition. My advice is its a good engine choice, with plenty of guts.

the general concensus on the 1.9 is pretty much a 50/50 thing. some go briliiantly yet some seem riddled with faults, but as said earlier in the thread, a well looked after one should go on for a long time!

Mines got 100k on clock and runs like it's new. Full service and parts history suggests that it had never had much wrong with it.
    Second is just first loser.

Trouble is, people only tell the tale if something goes pear shaped... I'd suggest in real life its not approaching 50/50 in terms of people who have issues... more likely 95/5 or less!

Pop me +1 for no issues! :-)

Do it, the 150 is cracking fun for the cash with 190-200+ in sight for very little cash.

I've found with every car I've had less issues when they are run on longer journeys alot.

Mines at 65K now, never had an EGR, Swirl Flap or EML come up. I wouldnt be surprised if those cars with issues are predominently run on lots of short journeys and soot up a lot causing the issues.

I'd have no issues buying a car with high mileage. If it's done 110K already it has done it above average mileage, which usually indicates motorway driving.

i have a 2006 150 cdti, its had 2 new egr valves, 1 new inlet manifold and a new swirl flap actuator its just ticked over 40k miles, it has had oil changes every 10k miles and my daily commute is 12m each way, owned it since it had 4k miles on it and it gets an easy life with me, i dont thrash it, just goes to show, even pampered ones can be trouble!
Fitted options: Folding mirrors, cruise control, dual tone horn, remap.
