    engine management light

I was heading back from a training course yesterday when the engine management light came on. I nursed it home and let it cool down, Now when I went back to the car 30 - 45 mins later, there was no light. So I thought it must have just have a had a mad moment. Went to the gym today and no light, came home went to the shop and its back on. Now my question is where do I go from here but I dont know what to do, Obviously needs putting on a diagnostic. But how much does this cost …?

I’m not expecting anyone to come up with any answers, but all the fluid levels are correct and it has been serviced fairly recently.

So what do I do from here ??

    Its a X20XE Vectra B

    Thanks

    Richie

just needs the old paperclip test mate

OBD port is still under the handbrake trim like on ur old coupe

lift that up and u wanna be crossing pins 5 & 6 with a piece of rigid wire - a paperclip is ideal

switch on ignition and count the sequence of flashes given out by the EML

this will then turn into a code

    x amount of flashes,
    then a pause
    x amount of flashes
    pause
    x amount of flashes
    pause
x amount of flashes etc etc

let me know how u get on bud

details on the forum if u do a search for "paperclip"

cant send the link as im on another comp at moment

Just had the HT leads out and the plugs are soaked in oil. Obviously the rocker gasket has gone, which is common fault on the veccy B, but could this be the reason for the EML ?

well if u can grab a length of rigid wire it will do - or even a length of normal wire - just make sure the ends are rigid to enter the pins correctly

might give u some idea what the EML refers to
