Buying my first MK4 2.0 Astra, some questions...

Hello everyone Im new to the forum. Been a Ford nut for about 20 years but decided they werent offering what I wanted in my price range. So Im buying a MK4 2.0 Astra. I have a couple of questions.

What bhp is the 2.0? I read its 138, is that correct? My last car was 150, I dont really want to go any lower than that, should I get the 2.2 instead?

I want to lower it, whats the standard drop & wheel size mod for the MK4?
Who offers the cheapest lowering kit?

Any things to look out for when Im buying.

Do Vauxhall & local motorfactors still stock/make parts for the MK4? One of the problems I had with my Ford was that the parts werent available anymore as it was a P reg.

I look forward to your replies.
    Thanks

    Hi an welcome to AOC
the 2.0 is about 135 to 140bhp as std
you can fit a new exhaust system an get a few more bhp easy
the 2,2 is a good engine also
me i went for the 2.0 Turbo engine as they are easy to get power out of

the parts for the mk4 are still in parts shops as a lot of people still play with them

    Hello Mate and Welcome!

I think you are right the 2.0 is around 138bhp but the turbo is about 198bhp, I think the 2.2 is something like 145 - 150bhp (maybe someone else could give a more exact figure).

A standard drop is generally around 40mm and fit 17/18s. You may have a problem with 19 inch wheels (can be done but may require arch modifications). maybe look on ebay or Total Vauxhall magazine for kits.

I never really had a problem finding parts but I do find Vauxhall to be a bit expensive.

    Heyha, thanks for the reply
I can only dream of affording the turbo version Im afraid as much as Id love it. Single parent, blah blah LOL
Although saying that I just found this cheap one??? http://glasgow.gumtree.com/glasgow/11/40267211.html

I think I'll go for the 2.2, I see theyre 145 bhp if thats correct? I can live with a 5bhp drop I guess with a couple of mods to bring it up abit.

That a nice looking car advertised but I don't think its a GSI. All GSI's are turbos but that one is missing the standard GSi styling bits (front bumper etc.), it could just have a GSI badge stuck on the back.

Heyha, thanks for the reply 40mm & 17's sounds perfect. I usually do 60mm & 16's on my Fords but 16's are quite rare now.
For a 40mm drop could I just get uprated springs or would I need a complete kit?
    Thanks

The GSi's had the full Irmscher kit I thought. Also claiming to have 180bhp but no list of mods to say where that extra 40-50 bhp has come from?

You can get Eibach springs, 30/30 or a 30/50 kit. They are designed to work on standard shocks.

Ha, sounds like abit of a crappy 'hybrid' then.
Does anyone here own the 2.2? I want to know if it has power throughout the driving range or whether it takes a few thousand revs for the torque to get there. My Ford RS2K is great, but I cant afford the high maintenance now theyve stopped making parts
