    Heatshield under bonnet problems

When driving my car makes an annoying knocking noise under the car (near the exhaust). I thought it was the exhaust until I sorted it out and found out that the Heatshield (big silver coloured plate) ikeeps rattling. I lived with it for a while but now its really annoying.

Has anyone got a clue what I am on about or has had this problem before?

    What MK Astra is it?

Do you mean the Aluminium heatshield above the backbox?

If it is the one in the engine bay covering the manifold then check it out to make sure the torx screw things are all in ok because on mine the bottom one had rotten through and it was vibrating al lot causing some noise. but nothing noticable.

It will be the heateshield above the exhaust manifold I reckon. Right next to the radiator. I'm betting one of the bolts has rusted through and broke off or has dropped out with vibration.

I have the same problem, sort of, except i don't hear anything when i drive.

Mine's the MK4 Z18XE. Heat shield above the exhaust. somewhere towards the middle of the car has rusted through where it was joined onto the car. Part of it is just flappy now.

Its a 1.8 sport (dunno if that matters too much) and it is the heatshiled above the exhaust manifold. Can't really see if they are torx screws or bolts. Will check tomorrow

I had this on an old ST170 focus - i bought some stainless cable ties (ebay) and used them to secure it - no more rattles
