    What Engine Do I Have?

I have a 02 plate 1.6 8v Astra and surprise surprise the EGR value is giving me problems. Going to ring the local dealer and see if my engine can get remapped so it ignores the EGR, but I also want to price up the new part and need to know what engine I have.

So how do I find out what engine I have? I.e. do I have a C16SEL or a X16XEL or something else?

This is most likely a dumb question but I can’t seem to find the answer.

    Thansk for your help

    as above

1.6 8v used in the Astra G/Mk4 was:

    98-00 X16SZR single point injection 73bhp

    00-04 Z16SE multi point injection 83bhp

An ECU update is indeed available for your model but at approx £70 its a tad on the steep side when a brand new EGR valve can be had for £50 and take 2mins to fit.....alternatively, if u dont have any engine management light present why not try blanking the EGR off? Its not ideal as a permanent move but its good as a temp measure to determine the EGR is defo the cause - some ppl leave it like this long term.

fit the blanking plate in place of the EGR and mount the EGR on top of the blank with a few nuts/washers as spacers to allow valve to pulse....or mount the EGR away from the plate and secure with cable ties or similar - keep the elec plug connected so ECU still thinks the valve is connected and doing its "thing" - blanking plate is only £2.50 delivered

My local vauxhall updated the ECU free of charge as they said is was part of a recall on that particular engine.

They didn't change the EGR just the gasket, cleaned everything and jobs a good'n.
When I went in I did have the EM light on though, so that would've needed resetting also I pressume?

You might want to ask if they can do yours under the recall.
