    Was this a speed camera?

On the way to work this morning I passed two policemen (looked like beat police rather than traffic police) and one had a camera on a tripod. A little bit later down the road there were 3 more policemen with no cameras. Now this is a 20mph speed limit and there are no speed camera warning signs so I wondered whether this was a speed camera or something else (maybe to detect vehicles with out of date tax etc??).

Anyone know what this was at all? Also, do there still have to be warning signs present nowadays or is this an urban myth?

Definitely police but there was no van present anywhere (the only times I have seen police with tripod cameras was out the back of a van). The camera was also quite small so wondered whether it was actually big enough to contain the relevant technology

    size doesnt matter lol

around my work yesterday police were all over but they were pulling diesels only and dippin tanks.

police do hang around tax traps to stop people but the cameras for them are usual not too far from a vosa car. were they looking into the camera or not??? they do stil have to aim the cameras so if they werent looking bonus lol

One was looking into the camera and I'm pretty sure took a photo of my car as I went past. The other policeman had a clipboard. I'm curious more than anything else to know what it was!

Sounds like numberplate recognition cameras tbh m8, for catching wanted crims, tax and insurance dodgers. Camera tags you plate as you drive past and coppers further down pull you in.

I'm with moonman, I have seen our local police do the same thing, pulling over cars with no tax, insurance etc.

I work in Hatfield and we have a layby just of the A1m. VOSA setup further up the motorway, car goes pass triggers of the alarm and they get pulled and checked.
