    Rear reverse light?

    Hi there,
Not long had the astra and just realised today only one reverse light comes on. Sorry for the dumb quesion but is this correct that only the one comes on, as most cars now? Or should both be coming on.

Have you checked the fuses? If they are ok then it will probably be the switch on the gearbox

If the other reversing light is coming on, then it won't be the switch on the gearbox! If both lights don't come on and you've tried everything below, then it could be the switch.

As mentioned above if a light doesn't work, first of all try replacing the bulb. I know you've already done that, but did you check it was also the correct wattage? And bear in mind even a new bulb could be faulty and have a damaged coil and therefore not illuminate.

Then check the fuses for any that might have blown.

Then check the bulb holder for any rust/corrosion on the contacts.

Finally for intermittent bulb illuminating problems, it is likely to be a fault with the wiring, or a loose bulb connection.

my money is on the bulb holders.... the contacts are easily broken

i picked up a pair for about £4 from a breakers

you may wish to do the same...

as already mentioned, if one light is comin on then its NOT the switch! but a contact issue somewhere in the system, no doubt a faulty bulbholder

Try swapping the bulbs around? Would tell you if it was the bulb or another problem
