    Tyre sizes

    Can I run 205/55/16 on my mk4?
    It's not lowered or anything.
    Thanks in advance

so long as your rims r the right size guessing youve got 205/50/16 on it now, think you would have change them all to pass an mot tho

Only if running different sizes on the same axle. Can fit what ever tyre size you want, no rules come MOT time.

205-55-16 will make your speedo read low. 205-50-16 is the normal size for 16" rims on the Mk4.

Would be changing them all, it's a cheaper option to have the 55's thats all. I realise it would read low on speedo but its got some crap wheels on at the moment that are corroded and leak and i've managed to get some cheap sxi alloys and already have the tyres on my wheels from the vectra.
Just want to make it safe for my girlfriend and the kids.
Reason I ask is that I took them to get tyres swapped and the guy said he'd fitted 55's to an astra and the kid came back and complained they were catching.

Shouldn't do unless the car is severely lowered. A normal Mk4 has miles of space in the arches.

Even mine lowered 60mm at the front would probably have taken those tyres OK...

Common problem is people don't put the correct offset on aftermarket rims, and then the tyres rub. Standard ET46 rims will be 100%.
