i got this head to go on my car...

its got this pitting on, does it need to go in the bin?? i bought it off a mate who had it skimmed, put it on his car, ran a few times then stripped the car as the gear box was ****ed??

quite deep then , soon as you start skimming away you alter the compression ratios and also valve clearences , take too much off and valves hit pistons ............take it thats its a cast iron head ? if you really wanted to keep that head 4 some reason you could grind out the pitting , weld up with nickel , and then skim it back to a few thousanths under origonal size , bit extream if its just a standard head ?

You could get rid of it that way but taking 1mm of a N/A head is never good it will lower comp way too much.

It might be OK as it is in the water channels

You to get it skimmed all the way down to get those out or dont bother fitting it as you waste your time and money. To much off and yeah you risk to alter the compr and might hit a valve. I remember years a go you could get a thicker headgasket to compromise for the amount you take off by skimming. Look into it, it might be cheaper as to get a new head.
