New problem codes - 0460, 0650, 1650. Emissions light wont go off

I should stop going to the trafford centre as it brings on warning lights :| At least last time it went off on the next journey.

Approx 45mile each way. This time it came on virtually straight away & on the way back it was on as soon as the car started. Doesn't flash, just stays on.

Did the pedal test which brought up the following codes:

    P0704
    P0170
^^ i've had them since i bought the car Sept 2008. It then showed up new codes & i googled them - (results shown in italics) (NOTE: don't know if the results are true of the code)...

P0460 - Purge flow sensor circuit malfunction C-14
P0650 - Malfunction Indicator (MI) Control Circuit Open C-36
P1650 - Service Vehicle Soon Light Voltage High C-37

This is bugging me now. I'm half tempted to take it to Vaux & say fix it, but it bothers me quite a bit as my pockets aren't bottomless & i can see how this could turn into a money pit trying 101 different possibilities costing a lot, when i only paid £1400 for the car.

Spoke to my dad & mentioned the emissions light & he was talking about some temporary fix. I said i didn't want this. I want a FIX and not a temp one.

He compared it to his Sierra & says that fails on the emissions all the time, but the mechanic chucks a can of [product] in & it's enough to pass the MOT.

Would really appreciate someone/anyone throwing some light onto this. i can read what the codes are supposed to mean, but what do they ACTUALLY MEAN to someone not fluent in fault-code-language??

To be fair those new codes could all be related to your new clocks.

First one is to do with flue level I would say
Second and third I would say is to do with the lights in the clocks

And I would say the 170 codes means your clutch switch is faulty

    White is the new Black

I probably shouldn't have listed P0704 & P0170 as i've had feedback from Vaux & jhave a fair idea of what they actually mean.

Fair point on the clocks - i've not done the pedal test in a long time. So to me, they could be anything.

If it's the clocks i'm not fussy. Thing is ......... what's causing the emissions light to be coming on & does the emissions light tie in with any of those fault codes? That's the REALproblem here.

My dad was questioning it being the Cybox exhaust (he says it's shit & too loud - but only because modding is the devil to him lol). I asked how could it be as it's been fitted since January. He said it could take a while to come through or whatever. I was like aye, but 6-7 months?? I dunno.

    I tell you, i don't have a bloody clue!!!

Took my £25 eBay special code reader out & plugged it in. Said "1 DTC". Never gave me the code though. I thought sod it, i'll erase memory.

Note: after 5-6hours of walking round the trafford centre, i went back to the car & the light was on on start up.

Anyway, after an hour or so of being parked at home & then erasing the memory, i re-took the pedal test & the light just kept on flashing.

So i started it, took it up the road, round a roundabout & back & parked up. Re-took the pedal test & only 1 code turned up - the good old 0704 which shows up instantly eeeeeeeeeevery time. No other code showed up.

More importantly (& oddly - to me) the emissions light had vanished.

Just took it for 2x 6 mile trips to town & back & still no emissions light.

    Cars & electrics baffle me.
