Question Cannot select gears with engine running!

    Hi All,

I guess my clutch has gone - Is this just a case of replacing the cylinder or the whole clutch itself??

I've heard I have to drop the whole subframe to get the gearbox out to fix the clutch. Is this true?

    Any Help / tips?

    Thanks,

    J

subframe does need to come out or if you are fairly clever, you can drop the subframe on one side and get at clutch but it is tight. failing that most independant garages will do this for around £350, when Vauxhall charge £550+. change the whole clutch and release bearing/cylinder, it is false economy not to mate

Thanks mate. I thought that was the case, sadly!
I've had a price of £180 plus parts. So that sounds ok.

Definately will get the clutch done at the same time!

    Cheers,

how do you know your cluch has gone? just because you can't select any gear? chek for fluid underneath the gear box on the edge of the box sump , or make sure is bled properly ,chek the seal where the hose conects to the box (could be perished and let air in) how many miles curently on this cluch? usualy 120k for a cluch with std. power...

No fluid leak, resevoir full. flexi pipe 'swells' when clutch pedal depressed.

Just over 100K on the clutch.
