    insurance payout

    hey guys need sum advice my brother had a crash last week and the insurance has wrote the car off 1.8 sxi 52 plate astra now they gave him 2k for it out of 2k they are taking the excess which is £400. my brother has 10 months left on his insurance and they have rang him and said out of the pay out they will now take the remaining 10 months payments leavin him with £200 does this sound right? he is coverd with swift thanks for taking the time to read this.

    If you make a claim yes you have to pay the remaining premium.

    Yeah I know.

    Thats what happens when the insurance costs nearly as much as the car.

    You can see why people dont pay it.

    Why wouldn't you just cancel the insurance? Its no use if you dont have a car?

    when you pay monthly its like a loan and once you claim the insurance company wants that money back

    but if he gets a new car he can just add it on the existing premium hes paid he doesnt have to cancel it thats what i done when i wrote my car off i lost about 1 month premium until they paid out for the car i wrote off but after that i just put the new car on the same policy.

    Check the Terms and Conditions of the policy it might state in there what they would do in the event of an accident etc.

    most companies take the remianing premium out of the claim settlement so if you owed 500 on a policy and they were paying out 1000 less your 400xs you would only get 100 from it.

    personally i woul dcancel the claim and then sell the car damaged as his insurance will also go up hugely !!
