    TomTom Advice required

My TomTom SatNav and I have had a special relationship for several years now, she has guided me through single track lanes and busy A-roads, kept me on the straight and narrow in the dark and given me someone to talk to/moan at/swear at. However sadly the time has come to replace her because she is old, lardy and out of date.

I'm a sales rep by trade so I rely on my sat nav a great deal. It has to be a TomTom, I am not interested in any of the garmin things (no offence to anyone who has one, that is just my preference) but I am a little confused as to the differences between the One, the XL and the V4.

Does anyone have any recommendations regarding these models? I only need maps to cover the UK so no foreign maps required. Just a plain, simple to understand TomTom that is girlie friendly.

    Thanks in advance.

Tom Tom one is a 3.5" inch screen one and the XL series 4.3" inch one, no difference what so ever other than the software on them which you chose, UK only or UK & Europe

V4's are the same as the above, they come in the 3.5" and 4.3", other than they have the new lane guidance on them, IE when you are on the M5 or M6 it tells you EXACTLY which lane to get into, like the previous GO range

    Bit like this

The lane guidance thing sounds like it may be slightly annoying. Does it repeat the info several times? I sometimes want to throw mine out the window lol.

It's not bad in all honesty, makes things much clearer especially on a motorway with multiple junctions and lanes.

It repeats the instruction progressively, like when you are within a mile or so and then x number of yards away, and then turn left or right.

Something that's been on all TomTom's

I have the original tomtom one (3 years old) and I have all the latest software and maps of Central & western europe running on it fine. Lane guideance the lot.

You don't necessarily have to ditch the hardware, just hack it

How quick does it run just out of curiousity?

Just the Tomtom rep mentioned to me that the hardwares performance has more doubled over the past few years
