Astra 1.7CDTi 2004 (last of the old Mk4 shape)
I need to ask a very dumb question here...
The wife's car has just been into a local 'back-street' garage for a timing belt change (85k, gulp!). I know that this garage has honesty issues so I used an indelible marker to mark what I thought was the timing belt before it went in. Incidentaly, it also had a major water leak so I asked them to take the opportunity to change the water pump at the same time and investigate the leak.
Collected car earlier today and they claimed that it was a leaking hose 'at the back of the engine' (very convenient huh?), the pump was OK and it allegedly didn't need changed so they didn't - as it 'isn't driven off the timing belt on this model'.
Also the coolant was meant to have been complettyl reffilled with the correct mixture of antifreeze/coolant - but this is almost crystal clear - I've always known coolant to be coloured red??
Here's the main question though.... the belt that I marked has absolutely NOT been changed. I've shown this to a couple of guys tonight more knowledgable than I am.... and they don't seem to think what I have marked is actually the timing belt.
So, in a nutshell - in the photograph below of the car in question, is the timing belt B - or is the belt under the cover in A ??
I obviously need to know without question before I potentially go in tomorrow and raise holy hell if I've been done over!! I could end up looking like a right old co**-end if I am wrong!!
I VERY much look forward to finding out!
