    Smoke from the engine??

    Hi all,

I bought my zaf gsi today, drove it home and I was chuffed!! But when I got near home I noticed a burning smell, I then pulled up at the house and smoke started coming through air vents into the cabin .
I turned the engine off and popped the bonnet and saw there was smoke comming from manifold/turbo area?? I left the car for about an hour then started it again, it was fine until about 5 mins when smoke started comming from the same area of the engine . I cant see any wrong....but my mechanical knowledge is patchy at best.
The car drives fine, has done 35000 miles. Has any one got any ideas what it is before I take it to the garage and potentially look like a fool over something simple.
    Thanks-Chris.

Thanks everyone!! I havent moved since I got home for fear of doing some damage. Instead of making things worse and tinkering I'll get it back to garage and see what they say, and I will post what they say.

It could be a problem the previous owner knew about and traded it in to the garage you bought it from.

Could be a rocker cover gasket leak, or possible the the oil feed or return pipe could be loose

is there any sign of oil on the head/rocker or anything that could be signs of leaking?

my 1st opinion would be to check all hose clips are tight and that there are no pipes split or anything.... could be a simple solution

    Hi mate.

I had this just after I bought my GSi, after a run I would stop at lights or a junction and the car would reek of burning oil and there was smoke coming from under the exhaust manifold/turbo. It turned out to be my turbo seals were leaking from the bottom of the turbo and burning on the turbo itself. Take it back to the garage you got it.
