My New Car - Did i get a good deal?

    Hi everyone

Totally new to all this so be gentle!

    I have just traded in my 5-door 54 plate 1.7CDTi 80BHP and bought a 5-door 56 plate 1.9CDTi SRi 150BHP with the XP.

Looking for your thoughts on whether or not i got a good deal - Here's the details.....

    My old car

54 plate Astra 1.7CDTi 80BHP life with 51,000 miles on the clock - Car was needing some attention to front springs and wheel-bearing of the front passenger side wheel (i ws quoted £500 parts and labour from Arnold Clark).

After much negotiation i got £3,600 trade in.

    New car

56 plate Astra 1.9CDTi SRi 150BHP XP with 33,000 miles on the clock. Car has a few light scratches and a slightly scuffed front alloy. Screen price was £7995 but managed to get it for £7250.

    Good deal?

Will post pics just as soon as they have been taken.

    Cheers guys and gals.

    Stevie

Happy enough with the deal - Got it from Parks in Motherwell drove it for 30 mins and it broke down on the M8 LOL.

To cut a long story short faulty EGR valve leading to loss of power - Very common i'm led to believe and was suitably compensated :-D

Way to much for a pre-facelift model SRi even if it is the 19cdti! Jx

I don't know a lot about cars and only managed to get the price down by pretending i knew what i was talking about (google is an education!).

They have my old car for sale for £4995 but only a mug would pay that as it has been nothing but trouble since the day i bought it.

Happy enough with the new car, drives nice and in comparison to the 1.7 it seems much nippier and powerful.

I do have one question - It has a "sport" button inside which from pressing seems to make the steering sharper and feels a little more powerful but does it reduce the fuel economy significantly?

    Cheers

Sports button just alters throttle response, it doesn't do anything for bhp/power and I don't think it affects fuel economy...

What you need is a DTUK et-al tuning box, should see 200bhp or so with oodles and oodles of torque
