    wheel bearing or gear box

    hi can some one help ive had a humming noise for for a bit now but dont know where its coming from could it be the gear box or front wheel bearing. as its stiil there when out of gear or in gear could it still be the gear box or should i only here it when in gear if it was the gear box

    its on a astra z16xe

    jack the wheel up and see if there is any play in the bearing if so thats prob the case, also could be release bearing in the gbox. try and rosk the wheel top to bottom if ya no wot i mean as side to side the whell will just try and turn.

    You can also try spinning the wheel and listen for any unusual signs, this can indicate a faulty wheel bearing.

    hi just tryed spinning the wheel but sound ok but when im driving the car if i turn right it gets louder

    i forgot to say if i drive on a strate road and brake just as you coming to stand still you can here it more but to me it sound like a wheel bearing but i dont know

    are your pads ok, no metal touching the disc. turn thew wheel out and look through the caliper and see how much pads is left.

    i had this prob also, so my dad came up with the idea of putting the car on axle stands and putting it into third and let the car take over an we listened for the noise it was my wheel bearing.

    hi ive just put new pads on. but its louder if i turn right and brake at the same time its realy buging as ive put a second hand gearing on and got the same humming noise

    It could be tyres....mine made some wierd noises a few years back when my front tyres were mis-shaped.
