Finally getting round to fitting the 17s I bought last year. When I got them from a member off the site they were powder coated white which TBH hadn't turned out too well. The white had discoloured around the hubs and some of the spokes and no amount of polishing would remove it. As I didn't fancy white wheels this wasn't a problem as I intended to have them done in the same shade as my current 18" Pentas, a shade I called "Shadow Titanium" Due to the discolouration the wheels were cheap, £130 for all 4 IIRC. I managed to find another SE2 alloy which was kindly donated by another AOC member who's name I'm sorry to say I forget.
So last week I took the long trip over to Scunthorpe to the fella who did the Pentas 3 yrs ago, the Pentas still looked as good as the day I fitted them, even he was amazed that they looked so good after such a length of time. I asked for exactly the same shade as last time which wasn't a problem, however due to the SE2 having much wider spokes than the Pentas he did say the shade would look darker as a result.
Last night they were dropped off by Scott who works in Scunthorpe during the week but lives in Wigan, I thought I'd post some pics up here as well as the thread I have going in the North West members forum as some members may live closer to Scunthorpe than me and it's always nice to know a good wheel refurber. The discolouration BTW was caused by the last firm who powder coated the wheels not removing the existing silver paint, they just coated over the top of it and the stains was coming up through the paint as a result, plus it was flaking off quite easily.
Anyway here's how they look now, he half fitted the old tyres to protect the rims in transit, I've got 5 brand new 215/45x17 Toyo Proxes T1Rs to fit in there place. Due to the tyre being in the way it's a little difficult to take a decent pic showing the entire face. However the paint is perfect, very smooth, no orange peel and a very deep shine with loads of depth to the paint. Inside of the wheel was done in the same colour unlike the Pentas which were gloss black inside. The wheels were powder coated black and then the titanium was sprayed on and they were then lacquered to preserve the finsh and give it some gloss. Cost before you ask was £50 a wheel.
I included a close up of a spoke to show the finish better and also the wheel centre. The centre itself is a standard Vx colour which is a fairly good match considering.
