    1.7dti funny idling?

Hello everyone! I hope you can help me with this problem it only started this morning and is already doing my head in!

When im sat in traffic, or at lights ect, and the engine is just ticking over the revs bounce from like 750-850rpm, and the engine noise changes, the revs build up to 850 and the noise becomes louder then they drop back down to 750 and begin there rise again!

    Any ideas?

Note: my rocker gasket is on its way out, but im not losing a great deal of oil yet, i just don't have the money to get it sorted this week!

Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance!

    Max

Check all of your air ducting for leaks for a start. If you spray something (like a bit of easy start brake spray or something)on the joins and theres a leak you'll see it getting sucked in on a diesel (usually, never tried it on my own astra yet). Or give it a rev and listen for air leaks and try to locate them

thanks, its not doing it half as bad as it ws on that day, but i have noticed it only happens when the car is started for the first time that day,

and by that i dont mean cold start, as the car can sit at work from 8 in the morning till 5.30 when i set off and it doesnt do it then?

i will check what you said John, thanks again!
