Hey! Not sure if anyone can help me but I've got a very loud ticking sound that only becomes really loud and noticeable when the car engine has warmed up. When it's cold it's fine. I've read through various different threads and have found people with similar problems. However, I don't believe they got it sorted.
The engine is a x18xe1 thats covered about 72k miles.
Oil is changed every 6k miles and topped up when needed. Gets serviced regularly too. It's had new sparks/air filter/fuel filter/pollen filter etc etc.
Timing kit and waterpump all changed at about 65k.
Mods are de-restricted airbox, k&n panel filter (Recently cleaned), veccy c mod, remus race tube and irmy backbox.
I thought it was the auxiliary drive belt so I whipped that off and it was quieter but made no difference to the loud ticking sort of noise. I then replaced the tensioner because it was a bit knackered. Car sounds better for it but still the loud noise lol. I had a look at that fuel return pump on the top of the airbox but that was silent. I assumed it was broekn so changed it lol, still silent so I guess I'm lucky on that part! When I first start the engine up it's slightly tappety from the tappets but that quickly stops and when the revs are down to normal it sounds fine. Thing is, once it's nice and warm it sounds like a diesel (No offence) You can clearly hear the sound if you stand 20 meters away. It's bad .
Anyway here's the vids.
When engine is cold
When engine is hot and Auxiliary drive belt is off
If anyone can help then please feel free. I can give most things a go when it comes to it. I don't mind getting ye olde hands dirty so all is good!
Many thanks for reading this essay. It's a bit long winded but I'd thought I'd include everything I could to save everyone guessing lol
