    rolling road results

went up to celtic tuning this morning to find out what bhp my gsi was as i didnt have a clue, got it about 7 weeks ago with vxr tubo fitted and de restricted airbox with k&n panel filter

    results -

    engine -227.8 bhp @ 5,681 rpm
    wheels -175.8 bhp @ 5,602 rpm
    torque - 220.5 lbft @ 4,054 rpm

does that sound about right? 175bhp at the wheels sounds abit low tho?

those figures probably aren't far off TBH.

nearly 30BHP from the VXR turo which sounds about right and also your at the wheels figure is still around 80% of the fly wheel figure so again about right.

They are very good figures if you are running a standard map still.

It maybe that the wheel figure is right and the calculated engine power is wrong. Over 20% in losses have been allowed for as your figures stand and thats rather high on a FWD car IMO.

No that’s the output of the engine before it is fitted to the car, what people refer to as "at the fly wheel" power i.e. no transmission loss accounted for etc.

There is only one true way to measure an engines output and that it to remove the engine and test it on a bench. This is obviously not practical, as a result a rolling road measures the power output at the wheels when accelerating. This output is you’re at the wheels figure.

The rolling road also takes measurements as the car is decelerating.

From the two measurements (accelerating and decelerating) the software on the rolling road will then calculate the power at the fly wheel. This calculation is only accurate to a point which is there can be a big variation in measure output power between rolling roads.

Rolling road figures should be used as a guide only. The graph output is more important than the actual figures as the graph should highlight any problems that the engine may have etc

30 bhp gain from just a vxr turbo? this if im correct here is very unlikely, chances are that your car is already mapped with a stage 1 software or some kind of generic map
    281 Bhp sri turbo
