    Amp'd setup - front-left very quiet now?

For 3 days the front left speakers of my setup have been very very quiet.

Until today, after running the speakers for 20-30 minutes all of a sudden the volume level increased over 5-10 seconds and was then 'normal', but today it has not done this after an hour of driving.

I have a Fli 800S amp powering a 10" Fli sub and 6.5" Fli components up front.

Things have been fine since the install in July-ish 2008.

I'm a bit confused by the fact that the left front speakers are just quiet rather than not working at all?

I will try to swap the left/right speaker wires on the amp over the weekend as with luck, if the right speakers then go quiet, it points to the amp being faulty, and if it works fine for the right speakers then it points to the front speakers (perhaps the crossover?) being faulty?

Any other suggestions? It's not a setting on the HU, I've double-checked all these. The amp connections are fine and no wiring or settings have been touched for months and months.

As an easier check, swap the phono leads left/right before you do anything else. This will then rule out the head unit if the problem stays where it is. Swap them back if this is the case.

Then do the speaker wire swap, this will tell you whether the problem is with the amp or the speakers.

Ok, logic escaped me for a while tonight...but it came out true!

The FL800S is a 4-channel amp - if I run the front phono to the rear amp channels, and wire the front speakers into the rear channels instead of the sub then both front speakers work perfectly. So, the HU is putting the signals out OK but the amp isn't powering the front-left output correctly!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that makes sense to me!
