Unhappy 'Spanner' warning light has come on

As the title says my warning light came on yesterday. I had a search through the threads and found the tip about holding the accelorator and brake pedals down whilst switching on the ignition and the light just flashes once. Tried it various times, but just one flash. I note the error codes at the top of this forum, but can't make head nor tail of them.

I have a '58 plate 1.6 petrol Astra 5 door. Can you please help me out, I would like an idea before I head off to the dealers.

    Thanks, Carl

when u do the pedal test - the fault code should flash up in the mileometer readout and say ECN xxxxxx <--- 6 digits - the last 4 digits refer to the fault code in question

    eg. ECN 500300 = 0300 = P0300 = Random Multiple Cylinder Misfire etc

If this doesnt work then youll need a diagnostic hook up

You could always buy your own device - CANbus (the wiring system used on the latest generation of Vxls) compatible devices can be had for about £20 on ebay

The U480 scanner being a no frills cheap n cheerful one that should be upto the job in hand

If you cant wait why not post in ur local region see if anyone can lend u one, or try a local independent garage - most will have snap on readers n the likes and be a fraction of the dealers price

Have now done the test again and returned the code ECn 218217. But can't see that code listed, but I am probably missing something! Please advise. Thanks

Just fyi, checked it out at the dealers today and it turns out it is a faulty temperature sensor which they will replace under warranty - so nothing too drastic.
