    Celica GT4

    Hey

My brother is looking at buying a celica gt4, its a 1992 with 100k on the clock, i belive its the older shape 185 model if that makes any sense?

    http://belfast.gumtree.com/belfast/98/39667798.html

Thats the link to the advert, went down tonight and it looked very straight, paint work was a bit bad in some places but thats to be expected for a car of that age, all arches were rust free and no other signs of rust, started first time no bother and idled fine, it has a full service history(about half are at toyota) up untill about 92k in 2003, since then it has done less than 10k miles, the belt, tensioners and water pump were changed in 2003 along with the turbo gasket and a few other gaskets. Does the timing belt need changed again and if so is it a big job? Also the speedo didnt work very well, it was sitting at say 40mph when we were actually doing 70mph or so, at first i thought, damn this car is slow .

Any advice anyone could give me would be great, he has told the guy he 100% wants it and is bringing a mechanic friend down tomorow (guy who is selling the car is also a mechanic) to look at it for him but the guy seem shappy enough to keep it for him.

    Thanks
    David

He picked it up this morning and has been driving about in it all day, i didnt get a go in it as i was working but he stopped by to show me it, its fast Couple of small problems which he knew about and should be fixed pretty soon, he also noticed some mayo under the oil filler cap, but assuming this is down to the low milage as the head gasket was done 10k miles ago? Car does not overheat and drives perfectly fine.

Going to spend tomorow cleaning it and I will get some pictures up

Hes already broke it lol! Well the ABS anyway, there was a fault with the speedo, so i thought it would be a good idea to take the wheels off, remove the speedo sensor and clean/test it if possible but while doing this he managed to break one and the ABS light is now on, oh well. I also have some imprints in my car park where the jack has actually sunk into the ground, we had to struggle to get the wheel on as the car had lowered slightly!
