    Ticking sound from engine..

I have a ticking sound coming from my engine of my 1.8 SRi mk4. Quite a loud repetitive ticking coming from around the airbox.
Just had my timing belt replaced becuase me and the mechanic both thought it was that,

    Help please....

hey mate im having a similar problem

my 1.8 sxi makes alot of ticking / tapping noise when cold but when it warms up its ok

Some people say to check oil? and noisy tappets Im hoping that when it gets serviced next month that will help clear it up Or it might be the AUX drive belt and tensioner / pully My noise seems to be coming from near the AUX belt so if it hasnt quietened down after the service i will have this replaced

Yeah thats what i thought it could be the tappets but they only really seem to be noticeable when the engine is cold,
This happens when the engine is warmed and if i come to a stop eg traffic lights it is loud from the inside of the car.
Like i say ive just had new belt and tensioners so surely it wont be them.

    Ahhh.. cars = skint haha

It seems almost too loud to be that, its quite a substantial ticking that can be heard from the inside of the car.
Doesnt make the noise upon start up but only starts when you stop after the car is warm.
    confuseddddd

Im thinking just giving my engine a good thorough clean as its quite dirty atm.
Also need to do some more research as to the whereabouts of the carboion canister solenoid. I dont have a standard airbox on got a cone filter however if its near the top on the like quarter pipe then il have a look? Anybody got better descriptionsa s to where it is? Thanksss
