    mk4 2.0DTi reliability

I have trawled the threads for a while now and I cant seem to find an answer to my question, I might be missing something as im very ill with a chest infection at the moment. How reliable are these cars, I can buy a 2000 2.0DTi today if i want but I have heard a few people complain about the reliability and as luck has it my next door neighbours which is the exact model has just died on her so Im thinking it might be an idea to check it out before I shell out.

If its well looked after then you shouldnt have any problems. but its almost pot ;uck im afraid. Mines had a few probs lately, but jamies (jcastrdti) has and identical car to me, same year engine etc and hes had no probs, similar mileage as well

I have had mine for a around 18 months now and covered around 25k miles and ive only done general service bits to it such as brakes, tyres and oil changes. Can't fault it as its been raced round castle coombe 3 times and donnington park once as well as being driven around 1500 miles a month.

However a year 2000 model has the earlier engine to mine which is mostly the same and is more tuneable. I know of one of the earlier engines in a vectra that my mate owns and his is now on 220k and is still running as strong as ever! It does come down to how it has been cared for so service history is a must..

    Regular servicing is the key.
Don't skimp, change the oil & filters regularly & you won't go far wrong with any car.
