Whats involved in porting a TB?

    Hi,

Was just wondering whats involved in porting a throttle body?

I've read that this can give a better response but not too sure what I should be rubbing down or smoothing.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated as always

    Thanks guys

taper ported throttle body(rover 416 gsi)

taper ported spi throttle body on the left and standard throttle body on the right in the photo

you will need to strip down throttle body completely and also need to line up the inlet manifold with the taper ported throttle body,
also you need to mask up 2mm to 3 mm below where the throttle valve shuts, also you need a file and 40 and 80 grit production paper,
first you need to file the throttle body at a angle(45 degrees) just below the masking tape and when you get to the size needed stop then you get your 40 grit paper and sand the file marks by hand till the file marks are gone then get the 80 grit paper and sand the 40 grit marks till they are gone so it leaves 80 grit paper marks then the throttle body is taper ported,
when i re taper port my throttle body from 49mm to 55mm i'll put photos in my owners dairy, you will need to make a template of the taper ported throttle body this is so you can line up the inlet manifold (inside diameter of)

Do not listen to this guy ^^ Anything he says he learns from his pigeons, he is clinically insane and any of advice should just be laughed at as it is the outcome of some bad drugs.

    Tad bit harsh?

Stuff like the above works in practice, just not a massive amount can be gained from it, generally improves throttle response

Have to admit some of the things he says are bollox but others are quite a interesting read.

i'll admit i thought he was a bit of a nut job at first though lol. but soon learnt it wasn't cool of me to think that as i thought it was abit harsh too.
