Filler keeps rubbing off - advise needed

    Hi Guys,

Need your help on body filler............

I have decided to tackle the surface rust on my arches and they have come up really well apart from the area where I needed to fill.

Basically I'm using isopon filler with the hardner but everytime I go to rub down, after a while the filler just comes off. The I'm reading the instruction correctly and it says the correct mixture (hardner and filler) is not essential.

I'm using a light/fine sanding block which I got from Halfords but no joy

    Can anyone help

Are you leaving it to dry long enough?? Also try using wet and dry sandpaper instead, with plenty of lubrication.

Well I'm not leaving it to dry overnight so that could be it, I'm very impatient so it might be simply that I'm not giving it enough time to dry.

As with wet n dry, is this what I should be using when rubbing down filler?

    Thanks again

Have you cleaned all the paint etc off before you put the filler off. If the filler is hard you could rub it down with a stone and it will not fall off. Not that I am saying you should use a stone lol. Just an example

If its falling off now then its not going to last long with surface grit constantly battering it, i would recommend using fibre glass. i bought some ready made mix from a local motor store for 6 quid and its worked a treat.

    Okay,

It seems like I wasn't giving the filler enough time to dry

It pays to be patient.......... something I'm not
