    325ci vs my 1.8

    Now this was suprising.

I always expect my car to be quite zippy low end but gutless high end.

On the motor way I had your usual beemer driver.

Exiting a slip road we both saw the 3rd lane was free, I was in 3rd gear I rocketted into that lane. He tried his hardest to overtake(as we were both level) but then I slowly was over taking him in 4th. He wasnt backing off either as his car was getting as fast as mine. All within the speed limit my car actually powered ahead about 3 meters then he decided to sit on my bumper

According to letstorquebhp.com a 325ci has 192 bhp vs my 140. Granted its a heavier car but surely it would have been alot better top end due to bhp rather than torque.

Again its down to driver and he could have been driving an auto but are they really that slow????

A BMW 325ci is quite a heavy car, certainly a lot heavier than 1.8 Astra so this sounds about right. 52 bhp wouldnt make a lot of difference if the beemer is 100+ kilos heavier.

They top out at around 150mph so it should certainly pull away when up to speed. If it was an auto then I can imagine you would keep a reasonable pace at lower speeds.

yeah my bet goes on it being an auto. Both cars prob quite equal up to 70, only after about 90-100 the Beemer would pull ahead.

325 is definitely quicker than a 1.8 astra regardless of what your one encounter resulted in. Sorry but it's just a fact. I've owned numerous astra's and numerous BMW's and in a flat out race the 325 is quicker. So many variables in one random chance encounter with a driver you don't know on a road.

Put it like this, a standard astra coupe turbo is only just quicker than a 325 to 60, and on par with it after.

but good on you for beating it anyway what have you done to take it from 125 to 140 break anyway? it's probably those mods that have given you extra torque too!

LOL ShaanK, the 0-60 times may be similar to the coupe turbo, but the tourque delivery of the coupe is far higher and in 3rd gear that's what counts.

Plus most BMW drivers are overweight middle aged business men (your not I know )
